Question
Do treated veins ever come back?
Most people ask this a few weeks after treatment, when the first results show and the worry shifts to whether they will hold. The honest answer comes in two parts, and the sources split them differently.
Can a treated vein return?
Yes, sometimes. Vein Directory states: "In some cases, treated spider veins may come back. Also, new spider veins can form."
RadiologyInfo.org, on its sclerotherapy page, gives a conditional: "If the veins respond to the treatment, they will not reappear."
These two statements are not the same claim. The first allows a return, and the second ties permanence to how the vein responds. Neither excerpt explains how to tell which case you are in, so that is a question for your follow-up visit.
What raises the odds of a return
Cleveland Clinic names three things that raise the chance of varicose veins reappearing: a body mass index over 30, sitting for too long every day, and getting pregnant after treatment.
Weight and daily sitting time are two of the three, which means upkeep is partly your job. Cleveland Clinic adds that your healthcare provider will discuss treatment options if varicose veins return.
The sources we checked give no percentages for recurrence, so this page prints none. Any figure you hear should come with a publisher and a treatment type attached.
What to schedule
Book the follow-up visit before you leave the first appointment, and ask what a responding vein looks like at that visit. Then ask what to do if a new vein appears later, since Vein Directory says new ones can form.

The upkeep note
A treated vein is not a closed account. Plan for a possible touch-up visit as part of the cost, and ask your provider up front whether a repeat session is billed separately.
